![]() ![]() It’s been quite a year, highlighted by some spectacular spring and summer fishing followed by the devastation brought to the Jersey Shore this fall by Hurricane Sandy. Time now to do a few shows and also clean and lube what always seems like a never ending mountain of reels, and start looking forward to next season. Well, sad to say the boat is all winterized and shrink wrapped for its annual period of hibernation. There have been a few caught by guys targeting stripers already. I have a pair of spinning outfits that were made for the task, as well as an arsenal of lures I have been assembling for a few seasons, now I just need to catch one. This would allow us to move offshore a few miles (7) and hunt for those airborn bluefin tuna, as well. The long range forecast looks like it will be bringing some mild weather and sea conditions. ![]() My friend Steve who is the captain of the Reel Fantasea was out the very next day and he put his guy on fish. A perfect 1 knot drift from North to South right across the mouth of the inlet produced nothing, drift after drift after drift… That’s how it goes. My last effort was at the North Barnegat Inlet jetty with the live spot that were being taxied around all morning. The readings were heavier that day than on our good days of fishing. We were dragging umbrella rigs and Mojo spoons, the same lures that produced so well just a few days earlier. The sea condition was fine but I couldn’t buy a hit. Thursday, I took a charters out and it was awful. The readings of bait and fish are still heavy off of Island Beach State Park. I’ll have the trolling gear if we need it. We’re going to cruise the shoreline until we find the birds and readings to jig some stripers. I’m going to run open boat Sun, Monday (Christmas Eve), Thursday, and Friday, Dec. Sunday, looks fishable with a stiff westerly we’ll be fine along the beach. I’m not ending the season with a string of gale force blowouts! We are going to continue to run open boat stripers through New Years Day at least.
